At NSC, the dermatopathology fellow will be exposed to a wide range of dermatological conditions. NSC is the only tertiary referral centre for dermatology in Singapore. There are more than 1200 patient attendances daily in the outpatient clinics and day care centre. There are general dermatological clinics, as well as subspecialty clinics for eczema, contact dermatitis, psoriasis, photodermatoses, immunobullous diseases, infectious diseases, hair and nail conditions, drug eruptions, pediatric dermatological conditions, wounds, urticaria, lymphoma, itch, acne, pigmentary problems and psychodermatology. Sexually transmitted diseases are treated by our dermatologists at the DSC (Department of STI control), and we also provide in-patient dermatology care. There are procedural suites for dermatological surgery and laser therapy, and Moh’s (Mohs) micrographic surgery.

A number of dermatopathology text books are available for referencing in the sign-out room. The library at NSC, for which trainees have access to, houses most of the major dermatology journals, such as the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, British Journal of Dermatology, and JAMA dermatology, as well as major dermatopathology journals such as the American Journal of Dermatopathology and Journal of Cutaneous Pathology.

To facilitate learning and teaching in a group, there is a 10-header microscope in the histopathology laboratory. There are also stand-alone microscopes for trainees to do self-study or to review slides in the teaching boxes.

There are microscopes fitted with digital cameras which can produce high-definition photomicrographs for publication and presentation purposes. There is also an Aperio scanner for slide scanning.
